Moonlighting Might Get You More Than You Bargained For. If you suddenly decide you want to become a weekend filmmaker or inventor, you may need to get your employer’s advance permission.  Some employers have strict rules about moonlighting.   If you violate them, you might lose your day job.  Other employers require that you devote your full-time to the job and may consider your new hobby a distraction.   Be sure that whatever your extracurricular activities are, all emails, texts, etc. are sent and received on your personal equipment – not those of the employer and be very careful to restrict your activities to non-working hours.
